He's NOT a Powell, I'm sure.....

Is it Sergeant Dixon? Ed Issac's great Grandfather? OR..... a Mudd descendant?
None of those, Betty. Try a descendant that you've met in the last couple years.
A Garrett?!
Nope.

The man pictured above had a role in the trial.
Could it be John W. Clampitt?
Aiken....? But I believe you've got it, Roger! Clampitt.....
I have seen a similar photo and it has to be Clampitt. Betty would have met his descendant at the Aiken tombstone dedication. I spoke with the descendant by phone a few days later, and he promised to visit or send Clampitt materials. So far, nothing...
Indeed it is John W. Clampitt. This picture comes from the cover piece of his book, "Echoes from the Rocky Mountains".

Well done.
While I'm sure this will be an easy one, who are these two gentlemen?

Hint 1: One of these men is an assassination author.
The man on the right is Oldroyd?

Why yes it is. How about the man on the left?
He looks awful familiar.....let me think....is it Oliver Barrett?
Nope.

Hint #2: The man on the left was born on Lincoln's birthday.
Henry Riggs Rathbone? I remember posting a picture of him in front of the Peterson house and noting that he was born on Lincoln's birthday.

His photographs on Google look very similar to the gentleman on the left.
