Or, they got irradiated...
Ed's article does not say anything beyond "intended to ship to New York." Thus, I cannot find anything specific on this in the article. However, the article mentions that the men involved thought the whole operation was a success because there was a yellow fever outbreak in New Bern (under Union control). Over 2,000 people died, and in their minds, the "infected" clothing in the trunks had caused it.

Somebody cue the Elvis song!
Where is this granite boulder located and whom does it honor?

That is the monument in Alexadria VA. commemorating the civilians that perished on the Black Diamond. Their headstones are pictured behind.
You are correct, Rich. I thought you might get this one!

I would like to thank Laurie and KateH for putting the idea for this question into my head. It was their discussion in the "Type of trial debate" thread that made think of this.
Who said, regarding his associations with the Booths, "I have lost my property by the old man and my liberty by the young one."?
I don't think that this is right -- but Ed Spangler?
Sorry, Betty. It's not Spangler.
I know it' wrong, but to save some one else the embarrassment of guessing....John Ford?
It's not Ford either.

Hint # 1 - Think "Old Man" and "the young one". Who had a connection to both Booth's?
Michael O'Laughlen?
No, Kate, it's not O'Laughlen either. Gene mentioned John Ford. This statement was actually made to Ford while he and the speaker were being held in Carroll Prison, so he has a tie to Ford, also.
Harry Hawk?
No, Kate, it's not Hawk either.

Hint # 2 - This person was employed by Ford, but not as an actor.
