Nope, Steve, it's not Dr. George Mudd.
I don't have Betty's book on Powell available at home, but could it be the Mr. Payne from Virginia that "inspired" Powell's alias?
Samuel Cox?
Laurie and Thomas, I am sorry, but it is neither of those folks.
Henry Lowe Mudd?
Nope, not any of the Mudds. The conspirator connected to this man was not Dr. Samuel Mudd. The connection was not that of being a relative; he was connected to the conspirator in another way.
Someone of Herold's family? Or someone who had to do with JWBooth?
Nope and nope, Eva.
Augustus Howell? I'm not sure if he fits your description of first being mentioned after the assassination, though.
Nope, not Howell.
Someone with connections to the Petersen house?
Susan, as far as I know, this person had no connection whatsoever to the Petersen House. He became part of the overall Lincoln assassination saga later on in the series of events that came after President Lincoln died.
Is there a Canada connection?
Gene, this man had no connection to Canada.
Is he connected with John Surratt?
