Nope, Craig, it's not John Atzerodt.
I'm thinking the forum member is Rich and he's had contact with a Bainbridge before. So, could it be Absalom Bainbridge?
Nope, Dave, it's not Absalom Bainbridge.

Hint #3: The forum member is Dr. Blaine Houmes.
Last guess. I came up with the name first, figuring if it came from Dr. Houmes he must be a Doctor and then Googled to see if he was buried in N.Y.

Dr. Charles Sabin Taft?
Nope, Joe, it's not Dr. Taft.
Hint #4: Although Dr. Houmes sent the image, the correct answer is not a doctor.
Blaine has such a multifaceted collection, it could be anyone.

Answer me this, Roger. Union or Confederate?
Hint #5: He was Union.
Hint #6: During her time as First Lady Mary Lincoln wrote a couple of short letters to this man.
Roger, is there another well known picture of this man? I have an image in my mind of a gentleman not unlike this man seated in a three quarters shot facing right. Can't come up with the name though...
Hint #7: If you type this man's name into the search form for Google images there are photos of him facing both directions.
Hint #8: He received reward money for JWB's capture.
James O'Beirne?

Best
Rob
Right, Rob! Very good!

A great big THANK YOU to Dr. Houmes for sending this rare image.

Here's Blaine's image and a more common image seen in books.

What man whose name is part of the Lincoln assassination saga was charged with trying to fool the gas company? A rubber pipe was rigged to his gas meter which conducted the gas around rather than through the meter!!! However, the man in question had an explanation for the judge. This sad and unfortunate incident happened many years after 1865. Who was he?
