Nope, not the Dixons.
Elizabeth Blair Lee and Samuel Philips Lee?
Nope, not Elizabeth Blair Lee and Samuel Philips Lee.

Hint #2: The last names of both people begin with a vowel.
Arnold? Samuel's parents?
Excellent, Eva! Kudos. Yes, these two people are George and Mary Jane Arnold, Sam Arnold's parents. I really thought I was going to have to give more hints!
I feel so stupid! Surratt House Museum actually had the original portraits of the Arnolds for years until a descendant came forward to claim them. We were happy to send them home with family since they were large, in need of conservation, and not appropriate for any of our displays.

Wouldn't you think my brain would remember those faces? However, in my defense, the portraits were in bad condition and they left the building about 25 years ago... Does that work as an excuse?

I've seen that picture before, hmm?
Hint #1: It's a familiar name on this forum.
That is a sullen Lewis Thornton Powell, who looks none too happy about having to sit still on his mother's lap...
Yes, Laurie! Kudos. That is a very young Lewis Powell.

Mom is one of the prettiest woman I've seen a photo of from the era.
