Boston, Massachusetts? Niagara Falls, New York?
Sorry Roger, but neither of those are correct. It's in the Midwest.

How about Beloit, Wisconsin? Lincoln was there during the Black Hawk War (1832) and again to give a speech (1859).
That's a logical guess, but not correct.

The second time he visited here was in conjunction with a very famous event.

A sporting/racing event ?
No, Mike. It was a political event.

This place was also famous for its connection to another person.

Rob, can you have Roger post the picture? For some reason, I can't access or see the image you posted.

That looks similar to Vinnie Ream's statue of Lincoln (pose, etc.). But that statue is inside in the US Capitol.

There is a copy of Ream's statue in Galesburg, IL (I don't remember who made the copy). It's just outside the train station. I visited it several years ago. Seeing as how Galesburg is also Sandburg country (in addition to being the site of the 5th Lincoln-Douglas debate), that would be my guess.
is there an Ida Tarbell connection ?
Sorry Gene, but Scott got it. The statue is outside the train museum in Galesburg. I took the picture when I spoke at the Sandburg Days Festival of the Mind a few years ago.
