Brilliant, Gene. In 2012 Jimmy Carter surpassed the previous record held by Herbert Hoover.

You win free tickets to the Billy Carter Gas Station Museum in Plains, Georgia.

Roger, the photo makes me think of one of my favorite paintings by one of my favorite painters:

Here's another First Dog - can you name doggie and owner?

Kudos, Kees, that came quickly - and it's absolutely correct! And you weren't even taken in by my amateurish attempt to cheat y'all - this is the original photo:

I didn't even have time to think of an appropriate prize, so you win my #1 dog song:

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?

That reporter invaded Barney's personal space, and he paid the price. Laura Bush wrote the victim a lovely apology letter, but I guess Barney had had enough after 8 years of playing Mr. Nice Guy for those annoying people.

Thanks Gene!

RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia
Who is this gentleman?

Hint #1: I guess this will be a research question.
Hint #2: One road to Rome is to thoroughly research one of the latest threads.

The gentleman is a Virginian, Joseph Jenkins Roberts, who became the first President of Liberia, an African colony for freed American slaves.

Thanks for recommending the great article on Slavery from wiki, Eva. I found the answer there. It also reminded me of an assignment that I used to give my 8th graders when we began studying the issue of slavery in America. They had to resort to encyclopedias and (hopefully) other reference books in those days, but I wanted them to understand that slavery had been and still was/is a universal problem - not just an American one.

I urge more of you to read the article. And, I'm putting forth a slight political viewpoint, but pay close attention to the history of slavery within Muslim civilizations...

That's not being political, that's acknowledging reality.

That's not being political, that's acknowledging reality.

And I acknowledge it with fear and trepidation for the future...
