Like Grant he was a general. Was there any other president with a similar military background?

RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia
George Washington, Zachery Taylor, Andrew Jackson, James Garfield, William Harrison, Rutherford Hayes, Benjamin Harrison.

there are a few others, but they didn't have combat or battle experience, several others served in the military. but did not reach the rank of General. (Theodore Roosevelt, Nixon, Kennedy, George Bush Sr. and more)

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?

RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia
There were only 3 professional military men elected president, Taylor Grant, and Eisenhower. All the rest listed above were politicians with some military experience, regardless of rank.

RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia
Which First Lady wrote this to her husband (many years prior to his presidency)?

"Don't put such unlimited power into the hands of the Husbands. Remember, all Men would be tyrants if they could,...That your Sex are Naturally Tyrannical is a Truth as thoroughly established as to admit of no dispute..."

RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia
It just has to be Mrs. Adams -- "Remember The Ladies" was her admonishment to her husband when he left for the Constitutional Convention, I believe.

RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia
Bill and Laurie - you are both correct. Good job. (in a letter dated March 31, 1776)

You both will receive a $5 gift certificate which is good at your nearest Montgomery Ward store.

This dog had his own quarters next to the White House.

1. Which First Family owned the dog?
2. What was the dog's name?

RE: Presidents and First Ladies Trivia
The city where I was born and grew up has, once a year on Ascension Day (since 1950), awarded a prize to people who contributed to the services of European reunification and the services of humanity and world peace in the field of literary, scientific, economic or political endeavour. It is one of the most prestigious European prizes.

One US President and two US Secretaries of State were amongst the recipients.

a) Which President received the prize?

Since you've just to choose between 11 presidents - to make it a bit more difficult:

b) Which Secretaries of State received it?
