RE: The Surratt Courier
Well, we are a little late (but we are volunteers!) and the November/December issue of The Surratt Courier is now posted at https://www.surrattmuseum.org/_files/ugd...b96c02.pdf
The announcements are that the annual meeting of the Surratt Society is tentatively scheduled for Saturday, April 12, 2025, from 2:00 to 4:30 p.m. EDT. There will be a brief business meeting, followed by two presentations. The meeting is open to all; HOWEVER, you will need to register in advance. Details on the speakers and registration will follow. The Surratt Society also needs a volunteer to serve as Treasure on its Executive Committee. In the November/December issue are articles by Philip Van Doren Stern on Lincoln's Christmas pardons; Jefferson Davis' 1864 Christmas; and Dennis Urban on the Lincoln conspirators. (Thank you, Dennis!) |

RE: The Surratt Courier
The January/February 2025 issue of The Surratt Courier has been posted on the Surratt Society's website and focuses on who actually held John Wilkes Booth's horse behind Ford's Theatre on the evening of April 14, 1865. There is also an article, in the wake of his passing, of President Carter signing legislation in 1978 to restore Jefferson Davis' citizenship. The Courier is free and open to all at: https://www.surrattmuseum.org/_files/ugd...48c8b6.pdf

RE: The Surratt Courier
The Surratt Courier 2025 March/April issue has been posted on the Surratt Society website at https://www.surrattmuseum.org/_files/ugd...68b4e4.pdf
The issue includes 1865 newspaper reports (remember, that's how you learned information in the mid-19th century) about Lincoln's assassination. Although many of those articles have appeared in a number of books over the years, I don't believe they have been collected in a single source. In addition, the issue has the Zoom link to the 2025 Annual Conference, on Saturday, April 5, from 2:00 - 4:30 p.m. (E.T.). After a brief business meeting for the election of officers for the 2025-6 term, there will two presentations: Paul Severance will speak on the trial of the assassination conspirators; and Frank Gorman will speak on the effort to exhume Booth's body from Green Mount Cemetery in Baltimore. The meeting is free and open to all. |
