Wes -

Next year I will make a point to seek you out and introduce myself, as I was there as well.

Bill Binzel

(PS - In re-reading this after I posted it, it half sounds like an admonishment, which was most certainly not my intention. What I had intended was simply an expression that I hope someday our paths will cross.)

Not a problem, Bill. I knew you were just adding your name to the list. I'm sure there were others from this forum who were present that I didn't list.

Thanks, Wes. I enjoy your posts, and I do hope to have the opportunity at some point to say hello to you in person.

Roger!!!! All my proceeds go to the museum. The government agency that owns us (and me) prefer it that way. And no, I do not charge for autographs - just speeches, which I no longer do.

RE: 2015 Surratt Conference
Many long years ago, the Surratt Conference was held on a weekend in April. Then we began to lose ground to those darn brides who wanted to use Colony South Hotel for their receptions. We then moved back into the last weekends of March.

I just booked for the 2016 Conference, and now I'm fighting Knights of Columbus for an April date (Palm Sunday and Easter are claiming the last two weekends in March next year). The Knight beat us to April 1-3, so the 2016 conference will be the weekend of March 11-13 -- and Mother Nature better give us a mild winter and early spring.

RE: 2015 Surratt Conference
I just thought of a question that came up in a discussion with another attendee. Thanks for any "enlightenment" on the following:
Lincoln didn't canvass as back in those days it was considered unseemly for candidates to openly campaign, the office should seek the man instead. When/who did that change? Was it a process, or did one president "take over" the lead in seeking the office?

Things do change over time, don't they! I think TV made big changes in how a candidate campaigns for any office, federal, state,or local.

RE: 2015 Surratt Conference
Eva, I came upon a web page which talks about this. Among other things it says, "In 1896 Democratic nominee William Jennings Bryan became the first presidential nominee to spend the entire campaign addressing the issues in public speaking tours."
