Tad Lincoln died this date in 1871. Mary Lincoln had her faults, but she sure did endure more tragedies than anyone should have to bear.

On July 15, 1875, Tad Lincoln passed away.
On July 15, 1882, Mary spoke her last words, slipped into a coma at 1 am on July 16th, and died later that evening.

The Adams and Jefferson thing has always amazed me. Apparently, neither one wanted to actually pass away before the other. I think Jefferson even spoke about Adams on the day he died.

James Monroe also died on the 4th of July, 1831. There is a terrific book "who's Buried In Grants Tomb?" by Brian Lamb and the staff of C-Span. to quote this book regarding James Madison, "A neighbor of Jefferson's in the Virginia piedmont, Madison was treated by the same physician, Dr. Robley Dunglison, who tended to Jefferson in his final days. In his last months, clearly on the verge of death, Madison was told that drugs could prolong his life until the Fourth of July. He refused to try to delay the inevitable and thus did not survive to share the same memorable day of death as Presidents Adams, Jefferson, and Monroe."
