Lincoln Herald
While the Lincoln Herald appears to be falling behind in its publication's release (just received the Winter 2012 issue today), it still carries great articles and reviews. The current issue carries a very good article by the late Hans Trefousse on BELATED REVELATIONS OF THE ASSASSINATION COMMITTEE, the existence of which few people know about.
General Beast Butler tried his best to pin the blame of Lincoln's assassination on Andrew Johnson and in 1867 convinced the House of Representatives to create a Special Commission to investigate the murder. The Commission started with a blast and ended with a fizzle. The report was never even signed by the chairman and really didn't come to light again until 1954, when it was turned over to the Library of Congress. Dr. Trefousse's article gives the highlights of this ill-fated investigation. There was another similar thing called the Boutwell Report. Bill Richter is an authority on it - I could never figure out its complexities! |

RE: Lincoln Herald
How can we order this publication, Ms. Laurie? (I can't accept calling you "Laurie" and you have instructed me not to call you Ms. Verge. I'm stuck.)

RE: Lincoln Herald
I guess Ms. Laurie will do fine - it has that Southern flavor that I like so much!!
I cheat and read the Lincoln Herald copies that our research center subscribes too, so the ordering information is sitting on my desk right now -- and none of us can get into work again until Wednesday because they are digging up and repaving our parking lots. It's been years since I paid attention to the source, but I believe that it is published through the Lincoln Memorial University in Harrogate, TN. They should be online through Google. I'll try and supply an address on Wednesday - but I bet that Roger or someone on this forum will beat me to it. It is well-worth the price - especially for the book reviews and a column that Frank Williams does on what is going on in the Lincoln field -- articles, speeches, exhibits, etc. |

RE: Lincoln Herald
This will tell you all you need to know, plus it has an archive of some of the journals which you can download in full.
