Another clue: Kinderhook

Martin Van Buren

Absolutely correct, Dr. Houmes. A+ His gravemarker notes that he was our VIIIth President. I figured that the hint of Kinderhook (NY, where he's buried) would seal the deal with "Van" Buren being as Dutch as the name of the town).

Really close, Roger. Jackson was our VIIth President.

Okay, one more tricky one, and then I'm finished for awhile: "There's nothing left to do but to get drunk." Which President said this after learning that his party would not nominate him for a second term?

Okay, Blaine, you're not allowed to play this game anymore. You're too good at it!

It was Franklin Pierce who said that, and he made good on it every day for the rest of his life. Upon his death from a severe stomach inflammation brought on by heavy drinking (liver complications - can't spell the real term...?), some punsters said that his demise came from "a bottle well fought..."

Good guess, Eva! However, it was not Richard Nixon as his remains were flown to California.
