RE: Yet another ebay item
Unless I never learned measurements correctly, this has to be one of the tiniest artifacts ever offered. Less than an inch square??? Breathe too heavily, and it blows away!

RE: Yet another ebay item
I don't collect this kind of item, but for those of you who do, here's a real interesting Lincoln collectable
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Unknown-Worlds-5...33717b5713 So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |

RE: Yet another ebay item
Having Lincoln featured in comics is one more indication of his place in our culture. He has been in several of them over the years. I really don't see anything wrong with it. I own a few of them. As we all know, for better or for worse, Lincoln is a cultural icon. His image can pretty much be found anywhere and on anything. I still am using my Abraham Lincoln bandages.

The August 2013 of CIVIL WAR TIMES has an interesting article by Megan Kate Nelson entitled "Lights, Camera...Abe-Mania" about the ubiquitousness of Lincoln in our culture.

RE: Yet another ebay item
I'm showing my age, but I grew up loving comic books - anything from Archie to Prince Valiant. History-related comic books were very popular then and served to fuel my inbred love of history.

I agree, Laurie -- I was the very same way and would spend all my allowance on Comics when I was a small kid....loved 'em all! Especially those with a Western theme - AND the historical ones as well....
The Lincoln ones are a GREAT way to get kids hooked on history - especially with the "Graphic Novels" nowadays - and there are several assassination ones as well.... "The Past is a foreign country...they do things differently there" - L. P. Hartley |

RE: Yet another ebay item
This one's not ebay, but Amazon.
Buy a few strands of Mary Surratt's hair for only $2,999 http://www.amazon.com/MARY-E-SURRATT-EPH...ry+surratt What I found interesting, you know how you can click on the image and get an expanded view, the 2nd of 3 expanded views has a photo of Mary I don't recall seeing before. Is that her? An interesting item So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |

OMG - and for sale on Amazon as well?!
Would love to see the provenance on that one! I've seen that photo of "Mary" before....I think it's been kicking around for years.... "The Past is a foreign country...they do things differently there" - L. P. Hartley |

RE: Yet another ebay item
It is definitely NOT a photo of Mary Surratt - at least the Mary Surratt that we study! It has been nearly ten years, I think, since this little "goodie" was offered to Surratt House. I will say that there were multiple copies of this offering out there at one time. Put them all together, and there would have been quite a chunk of hair chopped from the real Mary Surratt.
Another fine example of buyer beware. BTW: Along the same lines, Linda Anderson pointed out to me the other day that used copies of The Reason Lincoln Had To Die were being offered for as much as $151.00! Even P.T. Barnum would be amazed at how many suckers there are out there in this wonderful age of technology. |
