Rob: near perfect answer! It was Sherman who was self-invited according to an article in the Jan. 2011 issue of North & South magazine. In fact, Lincoln had some anxiety over Sherman not being with his troops down in North Carolina. I've left my work-desk (yes, I'm at work)- so I can't give the authors name off the top of my head. Great job.

In the North & South magazine of January 2011, Carl R. Schendker, Jr. makes the following comment about the meetings (there were actually two):
"...the March 27 and 28 River Queen interviews figure importantly in Civil War lore, the only meetings ever bringing together the Union's holy trinity- Lincoln, Grant, and Sherman. These meetings spark the imagination, their poignancy nowhere captured better then by historian T. Harry Williams in Lincoln and His Generals. Describing Lincoln's April 8 departure from City Point, Williams ends his book with two chilling sentences: "Lincoln may have been thinking of the weary years of defeat-of McClellan, Burnside, Hooker-or of the hour of victory and Grant and Sherman. That day John Wilkes Booth registered at the National Hotel in Washington."

Abraham Lincoln High School in New York has graduated many who are now in the entertainment industry. Singers Neil Diamond and Neil Sedaka are alumni, as is actor Lou Gossett Jr.

Eninem dropped out of Lincoln High School in Warren, Michigan after failing the 9th grade for the second time.
Donna: you win! Neil Diamond indeed graduated the Abraham Lincoln High School in New York. Eminem is also the correct second answer. Great job.

Great! It isn't often I actually see the question before someone else answers.

Kudos, Rob. That is the girl. I was already trying to think of clues but having problems doing so - thank you for making that process a non-issue.
How did the Lincoln and Mudd families fit into the marriage of Andrew Johnson and Eliza McCardle Johnson?
OK, no one's biting on this one so here's the answer: Andrew Johnson and Eliza McCardle were married by Mordecai Lincoln, first cousin to Abraham's father. Mordecai Lincoln was married to a Mudd (I want to say a second cousin to Sam, but I'm not sure).
Wow, I bet you gave killer tests when you were a teacher!
