More, 0n Rathbone 1870 Res. 706 Jackson NW. 1874 Res 8 Lafayette Sq. NW. 1878 Res. 8 Lafayette Sq. NW. Anyone else you want me to look for? That is from the 1865 City Directory (Then 70, 74, 78). I can't hunt addresses, or I could find who lived there before. I can find where Peterson move to. It's all indexed by peersons names. Also, the City Directories showed the head of the household, or in the case of a widow they showed her as a "Widow of...." BUT, diferent publishers, did different things. It's best to try.

Do you know when they renumbered the streets? I've recently seen, but could copy some 1870 street plats, but unfortunately not one of the Lafayette Sq. or Ford's Theatre environs. Seward's home was located on what is now called Madison Pl. Wasn't it originally 15 1/2 St.? I'm so confused!!

Laurie, Where did you get 712 Jackson? Ira Harris and Henry have the same address in 1865 -15th West @ H North. (That is not the Willard.) In 1864 Ira was at the Willard. By 1870 Ira was in Albany. Died there 1875. Henry is sown to be Assigned to the Russel Barracks in D.C. (No other home address.) until1968. In 1874 he is at 8 Lafayette Sq. through 1879. In 1881 he gets assigned to Germany.

Another Item. In Rathbone's "Soldier Record" it says " He and Clara were picked up at her Father's home on H Street, Washington D.C. by President and Mrs Lincoln in their carrige and accompanied them to Ford's Theater.

Another item. I have the City Directories in Ancestry.com. They have Many many Directories, including Sarah Spencer in Poughkeepsie in 1912. Don't buy it - i'll find it for you.

Kate. I pay yearly by credit card, so I don't know the exact cost, but it's near $150.00. If you are into genealogy - ANYONE'S genealogy, then it's a good buy. Every census, births, marriages, passenger lists, military records, family trees, newspapers, photos, maps, city directories, school year books, on and on. I've had it 5 years and I'm still findin new stuff. (PS. I don't get commissions for selling.) If I can help, I'll look for you. (No charges - to anybody reading this). I don't know your full name, but I bet you are in there.

Ancestry also has a deal where you can do 6 months for $75.00 twice a year. That's how I do it - it's a lot cheaper this way and it's well worth it! I LOVE Ancestry - you can find just about anyone there....

Fascinating! Rich S. also made a post indicating Rathbone had stated the Lincolns picked them up on the way to the theater. Has anyone ever seen a statement by Clara Harris on this matter?

This is the first I remember of hearing about Rathbone's Soldier's Record. Also, I have looked at so many addresses in the past week that I can't remember which source mentioned 712 as the street address.

I know that there is a member of the Surratt Society who is the expert on the Rathbones. I just can't remember which of the 1500 members it is!!! I know there was a small article in the Courier months ago that he sent in correcting the idea that Henry ever served as an overseas consul for the U.S. That article was on the right-hand column of pg. 2 in that Courier, I think. I just can't remember the month - and I don't think that we've had a chance to index the 2012 Couriers. Because of lack of space on government computers, we do not save the "newsy" pieces of each month's newsletters. We do it the old-fashioned way - we rely on paper copies!
