It doesn't go in to much detail on the individual cases Lincoln reviewed, Steve has gone into more detail than any of the cases I remember reading about in this book. I'll dig it out and see what I can find.

It was a small amount of midnight oil. There was a short list of names in Steve's post yesterday and there was a book index in "Don't Shoot That Boy".

David, a big thanks for posting the letter from the Portland Advertiser and to Steve for his amazing research. I'm looking forward to reading what became of the other men.
The subject of desertion during the Civil War and the military judicial system developed to deal with it, is indeed a complex subject.
