Civil War Gold
I'm wondering if anyone knows whether gold jewellery and/or diamonds were sold for currency in the Civil War and if so, how much would it fetch? I know gold was worth about 31 dollars in 1863 going up to 47 dollars by 1864, but there's no mentioned of how people shifted for selling it.
Were there gold merchants and diamond merchants? How easy was it to sell personal jewellery? ‘I’ve danced at Abraham Lincoln’s birthday bash... I’ve peaked.’ Leigh Boswell - The Open Doorway. http://earthkandi.blogspot.co.uk/ |

RE: Civil War Gold
Blockade runners would turn it into cash in England.
