a finished manuscript
After six years of research, writing, editing, rewriting, and starting over again, I submitted 98,848 words to Southern Illinois Press to be considered for publication. This manuscript currently has no title. I've been gathering questions about Mary Lincoln since 1992 - and I finally compiled them and their answers into book form.

Here's hoping for the best! It has to go through several review panels before I hear whether or not it will be chosen.

RE: a finished manuscript
Good work, Donna! We all send you our best wishes on this. I really like the format of Gerry Prokopowicz' Did Lincoln Own Slaves? and Other Frequently Asked Questions About Abraham Lincoln, and the format of your manuscript sounds similar. This is wonderful!

RE: a finished manuscript
I have told myself to stop buying books while my daughter is still speaking to me, but I may have to make an exception in this case because your work is always so good -- and right to the point.

RE: a finished manuscript
Thanks everyone for the well wishes. Yes, it sort of follows the format of Dr. Prokopowicz's book. I spoke with him prior to starting this manuscript. I felt that I needed his approval and blessing before I began.

Laurie, we must never say we have purchased our last book. There is always something new to explore. And, I hope this one answers everyone's questions.

While I loved finding the answers to many of the questions, I had the most fun compiling the list of relatives and friends. I was able to find the identify to several people and link the family members to their proper branch of the tree. By the way, a lot of historians claim that Mary and Dolley Madison were related. They were not.

Congratulations and best wishes.

I have endured a great deal of ridicule without much malice; and have received a great deal of kindness, not quite free from ridicule. I am used to it. (Letter to James H. Hackett, November 2, 1863)
