Thank you so much for your kind words! I would love to meet with you - weekends are better for me. Just let me know when we can meet. By the way, another place you would probably want to visit would be the restored Conspiracy Trial Room at Fort McNair and the site of the hanging (formerally the US Arsenal, 13 miles from Surratt House in DC.) I give tours there 3 times a year when it is open, but I can check to see if we can open it for a special visit. Let me know!

Many of us who are intrigued with the Lincoln conspiracy have a sense of humor to go along with it. One of my staff members said that someone sent her a Facebook entry that showed a license plate that read " JW Booth." The fun part is that the plate was riding around on the bumpers of a Lincoln car...

I have had friends with tags that read "Booth Buff" and another with "April 14, 1865."

You are so right, Laurie! Years ago, Joan Chaconas, who also works at Surratt House and is a "real trip" and I were working at another period home - I think it was the Beal Dawson House. It was very rainy and visitation was slow. We were bored and made up a song to the tune of In the Shade of the Old Apple Tree

It went something like this:

In the Shade of the Old Gallows Tree

There are nooses for you and for me;

One for the Lady and three for the Gents

Your choice of clergy for penitence;


When the trap door shall fall with a clunk

You might as well face it, you're sunk

There is no turning back with your head in a sack;

I remember that well! I also remember that we would make up names of carnival rides using the conspirators' names as well as a menu of food incorporating their names -- i.e. Booth Burger.

Yes we would, Laurie! Do you remember a party that Joan had at her house back about 1978-1979? It was a "Booth Buff-et".... Joan gave the food conspirator related names...I forget most of them!
