RE: Extra Credit Questions
May I ask that it be an abstract sculpture so that no one recognizes me?

You are allowed requests, but the Friends of Fred Smith make the final decision.

I believe this was a school newspaper he either edited or produced. He attended the Brown School in Chicago, which was a refuge just outside the perimeter of the Great Chicago Fire in 1871.

RE: Extra Credit Questions
I believe this is correct, and there was only one issue published.

RE: Extra Credit Questions
Kudos, Blaine and Eva. You are both correct. Tad was co-editor along with another lad named Sterling P. Rounds, Jr. I believe the Chicago History Museum has a copy.

You both win free lifetime subscriptions to the Brown School Holiday Budget.

RE: Extra Credit Questions
Roger, that would be really special but it's not the one Keckley owned. Here's a hint. It's an object that didn't belong to Tad but Tad used to assist his father.

RE: Extra Credit Questions
Good guess Eva but it's not an inkwell. One last hint. This object was used the Tuesday night after the fall of Richmond.

RE: Extra Credit Questions
Although Noah Brooks claimed he held the lamp to provide light at Lincoln's April 11 speech, I believe I also read Tad did. This lamp perhaps?

RE: Extra Credit Questions
I think Eva's right. Somehow I remember reading about this when the Surratt Society was raising money to mark Mrs. Keckly's grave.

RE: Extra Credit Questions
I don't think Tad held the lamp; I think he picked up the sheets of paper his father dropped as he gave his speech.

RE: Extra Credit Questions
As I recall there was a conflict of opinion on this. Noah Brooks said he held the light as Tad picked up the pages from the speech as his father dropped them; Mrs. Keckly said Tad held the light. I thought it was a candle.
