RE: Extra Credit Questions
I appreciate the lilacs, Eva, but you are going to have to return to Maryland to plant it for me... These knees will never stomp down on a shovel ever again.

What person described Abraham Lincoln as follows?

"Mr. Lincoln was of low (bad) physical organization, slow digestion, slow circulation, slow function-blood-not hot - not impulsive - cold flush. Liver had no action, bowels slow, costive, sometimes feverish, sometimes cold, had not a strong life, but a treacherous one. He had no haste, no impulses, no wear of cellular tissue, muscles, or nerves. He took life easy, had no haste - no spontaneous emotions, was sympathetic and emotional in the presence of the object."

Goodness...what a description! Sounds like some Frankenstein creature produced in a laboratory!

It was Billy Herndon (who also told that A. Lincoln put his whole foot down flat at once...)

Toia, I agree! Very strange indeed! (You are making me laugh, Toia!)

Brilliant, Eva. It was indeed Herndon.

I don't recall seeing this quote before yesterday. I read it in an article by Dr. Emmet F. Pearson in the February 1975 Illinois Medical Journal. Thanks to Dr. Blaine Houmes for sending me the article.

Eva, you win Very Best Wishes for a wonderful day!

Ops, I was sure this was in Herndon's Lincoln (however, the style was Herndon's...) Your prize has arrived, it's sunny 90℉!

Eva, that is exactly what I thought when I first read the quote yesterday. I looked in Herndon's Lincoln, but I could not find it. Maybe it's in there, and I just missed it.

Lincoln once remarked: "Mary is tremendously in love with... As usual, I think Mary has shown fine taste."

Can you complete the statement correctly (regarding the content)?

I do not know, Eva, but I am 100% certain it was not William Wood!

Mary is tremendously in love with "Fido". As usual I think Mary has shown fine taste
So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?

Roger, your guess is 100% correct!
Gene, I'm sure Abraham Lincoln said this, too, but sure earlier, so Fido is included in "as usual".

RE: Extra Credit Questions
Eva, I am very surprised. Regarding Mr. Wood Jean Baker writes, "At some point Mary Lincoln and William Wood had become friends and possibly more." I think I have read the "possibly more" implication in at least one other book. That's why I figured Abraham would not make a "fine taste" comment about Mr. Wood.

Eva, my mistake! I just re-read the posts and now realize you are saying I am 100% correct in saying that it is not William Wood. I am getting senile, Eva! Please excuse.
