Gene, I'm sure Abraham Lincoln said this, too, but sure earlier, so Fido is included in "as usual".

Eva, I am very surprised. Regarding Mr. Wood Jean Baker writes, "At some point Mary Lincoln and William Wood had become friends and possibly more." I think I have read the "possibly more" implication in at least one other book. That's why I figured Abraham would not make a "fine taste" comment about Mr. Wood.
