RE: Assassination Trivia
Hey, Eva--

What I was thinking of in the reference to "some other American enterprises" was what strong-arm mobsters and gangs used to do in furtherance of the the old protection rackets. Or, one could point to the famous Tanya Harding/Nancy Kerrigan rivalry and the trenchcoated thug who tried to break Ms Kerrigan's leg with a tire iron.

RE: Assassination Trivia
The latter I remember - and prior to the attack I had felt sorry for Harding as the media had already before made them "the Beauty and the Beast". (Despite I had respect for Harding's achievements as she was severely suffering from asthma.)

My wife and I also felt that way to some degree, until the attack on Ms Kerrigan.

RE: Assassination Trivia
I admit I desperately wanted Katarina Witt to win, and neither of these two ladies...

Hah! Oh, yes; Katarina Witt! I had forgotten her. Patty and I pulled for her because she seemed to have a fun and engaging personality. Kerrigan came off, in comparison, as somewhat distant.

RE: Assassination Trivia
She became an actress, TV moderator and author, and runs a foundation to help kids with disabilities. This was probably my favorite of her programs (although back then she skated for East Germany):

Despite I've always found her so cool on the ice:

Who said: "I am glad to see you all. Johnson won't let me make a speech. Goodbye"? If possible, please specify the occasion.

Eva, can you tell us if the Johnson mentioned in your question is a reference to Andrew Johnson?

Wild guess: Edwin Stanton.

Very smart question, Roger - no, this Johnson (the first name of whom my source doesn't provide) was a War Department employee. The person by whom the quote is is a very well known character in the assassination "story".

RE: Assassination Trivia
(This one doesn't seem to score...hope the hint will reveal.)
Hint #1: The "speech" was most likely give in (with?) a high voice.

RE: Assassination Trivia
Kudos, Roger, that is correct (sorry, good guesses, too, Jim!)! The incident happened when followed by a curious crowd outside while Mr. Johnson had lunch with him before taking him to Brady's studio to have this photo taken.

Roger, you win a lunch for two at a place of your choice.
