How right he was! The "bug" bit me when I was a child of about eight. But I became fascinated with the Lincolns(Abe and Mary)and their relationship after reading Irving Stone's "Love Is Eternal" when I was thirteen.

Since then, I have read about everything I could get my hands on concerning them.

I didn't realize everyone would be so diverse, but, hey, that is awesome and, yes, that would be what makes everyone so good. (: For me, I haven't found any specific aspect of Lincoln or his life I'd like to study and focus on. I'm wanting to learn about every aspect of his life, try to cover everything as much as I can. (: That's what I'm aiming for, anyways! haha

The book Lincoln's Men I just came home with. haha I think I wanna start on the biography to have a general grasp of him then go from there. (: This book collection has been building since a year or two ago. I try to buy books that differ from the others. For short, don't like to buy two of the same books that talk about the same thing about Lincoln. Anyways, I tend to buy them and not read them... working on that though! However, I have read one; the Lincoln in Photographs and it was so awesome!

Which biographies (written by whom) are those? I "envy" (not a feeling I'm actually familiar with) you a little for the "Collected Works"...However, my experience - I've never ended up disappointed with a book recommended here, so if you are unsure as for what to buy I recommend to ask forum members!

"A. Lincoln" is written by Ronald C. White, Jr. and "Lincoln" is written by David Herbert Donald.

That "Collected Works" cost me a bit. haha But when I want a book, I always do my shopping with Amazon and a magazine called Bargain Books.

Brooke, another one to consider is a book written by one of our own forum members. 100 Essential Lincoln Books (2003) by Mike Burkhimer is an excellent source for finding the best books. It is very helpful in pointing a person in the right direction regarding the very top books on all aspects of Lincoln's life from cradle to grave.

Toia, I read that book many, many years ago. I remember Stone's description (if it's accurate) of Robert's eye operation for strabismus was downright frightening.
