Alas, Laurie, both Fred Grandy and Ben Jones are GUILTY as charged of being in The Lincoln Conspiracy. As a refugee from Capitol Hill, I knew both when they were in the House, and I bump into Fred every now and then. You can be sure that if our paths cross again, this will certainly be a topic of conversation....

I am so sorry to have doubted you, Bill. I must be older than I think I am (or am trying to block The Lincoln Conspiracy movie totally out of my head!) because I sure thought Gopher was in the later movie. I loved him on Love Boat, so I will try to forgive him the transgression of being in the Balsiger/Sellier fraud.

A search turned up some non-Lincoln related tidbits on Fred Grandy: How many of you knew that he was the best man at the wedding of David Eisenhower and Julie Nixon? Or that he graduated from Harvard magna ***** laude with a degree in English? Or that he nearly died from a heart attack a few years back?

Wild guess - Daniel Chester French, 'cause he's the only sculptor I can think of right now with ties to Lincoln.

Hint #4: This gentleman sculptured Lincoln more than once, and also sculptured Confederates.

Hint #5: His son named Lincoln assisted him at least once.

Gutzon Borglum.

You beat me by one minute! The son named Lincoln did it for me because that son had to complete his father's most famous work - Mount Rushmore. Gutzon was also a sculptor for Stone Mountain, Georgia, but I don't think he gets recognized much for that glorious piece. There is also a sculpture of Gen. Philip Sheridan in the center of one of D.C.'s famous traffic circles that was done by Borglum.
