Sorry I'm late wishing you a happy birthday, Eva. My mom, whose German is a little rusty (even though it is actually her first language) said that Happy Birthday in German is something like Fröhliche Geburtstag! (From what I see written above, I think she must be a little confused.)

I almost posted Happy Birthday early this morning, but decided to wait to see else would remember. I can tell you that no one on my staff remembered. When I refreshed their memory, all I got was, "Oh, yeah..."

I went online yesterday to read all of the "Happy Birthday" messages posted for Abraham Lincoln. When I could not find any, I rechecked to make sure that Lincoln had actually been born on February 12. My memory had served me well.

The article lists three of "President's Lincoln's most powerful quotes":

"Whenever I hear anyone arguing for slavery, I feel a strong impulse to see it tried on him personally."

"If you want to test a man's character, give him power."

"Most folks are as happy as they make up their minds to be."

Just wondering . . . so I thought I'd ask the experts (you): Are the above quotations correctly attributed to AL? Thanks!

Reignette, the first one is legitimate.

I have sure seen the other two attributed to Lincoln but have never seen an authentic source for either one. Maybe someone else will know of one.

Thanks, Roger. As you know, there are so many quotations attributed to Lincoln (especially on the internet, which Lincoln created, of course!).
