Under His Hat: Discovering Lincoln from Primary Sources
Discovered this WONDERFUL site this morning!
Be sure to take a look at Isabel Summer's Ring from JWB in 3D - http://www.underhishat.org/index.html "The Past is a foreign country...they do things differently there" - L. P. Hartley |

RE: Under His Hat: Discovering Lincoln from Primary Sources
I can make out the JWB inscription inside the ring. Does anyone know what the rest says? It looks like a small inscription following his initials followed by to other larger letters. I couldn't tell if they were her initials or not. I assume they were.

There's a good photo of the ring in the Taper/Rhodehamel book. I believe it says "To IS from JWB".

Louise Taper once owned the ring, but I believe it was one of her fantastic items that she sold to the ALPLM.

That is correct Laurie. About 3 years ago I contacted James Cornelius who is curator of the Lincoln artifacts. When my wife and I visited the museum, he brought out the ring and let us hold it. We were wearing cotton gloves of course! Joe, that is exactly what it says.
