RE: A Sandburg Stumper
Very logical Roger, but incorrect.

RE: A Sandburg Stumper
In regards to Wilma Minor, if Roger is going with Paul Angle, I will go with Oliver Barrett.

RE: A Sandburg Stumper
Steve nailed it. That's Oliver Barrett. He was a lawyer like Lincoln. Also, he and Tarbell were the only people that Sandburg allowed to read the entire manuscript of "Abraham Lincoln: The Prairie Years" before it was published.

RE: A Sandburg Stumper
No Googling, please.
In 1948, Carl Sandburg received a letter from a young historian discussing a picture of a particular person associated with Lincoln. In the letter, this historian quoted at length from a letter sent by a third person also associated with Lincoln. The third person wrote the second, "I want your Photograph--I want it at once--There is use in your saying you 'will probably send it to me--'I must have it--I cant do without it and I don't intend to do without it." To be correct, first, who is the young historian and second, who are the two people involved in the letter? RE: A Sandburg Stumper
I'll guess David Herbert Donald as the young historian.

RE: A Sandburg Stumper
Guess I better give a clue.
The person who hadn't provided a photograph said he was afraid that his "Pfiz" would break the camera. Best Rob Abraham Lincoln is the only man, dead or alive, with whom I could have spent five years without one hour of boredom. --Ida M. Tarbell

RE: A Sandburg Stumper
Were either of the two letter writers personally associated with Lincoln?
Was their a romantic connection between the second and third letter writers? So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |

Quote:Were either of the two letter writers personally associated with Lincoln? Yes. Quote:Was their a romantic connection between the second and third letter writers? No. Clue: The person from whom the photo was wanted told the letter writer that he had never had a photo taken before. If the historian is Donald, then one of the two men discussing the photo must be Herndon.
