Oldest US department store chain going out of business
Lord and Taylor, the oldest US department store (founded in 1826) is going out of business:

Once the liquidation sales end and the stores close for good, the oldest US department store chain will be Macy's, founded in 1858. I think Macy's will also be the oldest department store overall, but there could be an older local independent department store in the US which I'm not aware of.

I'm afraid at least Harrod's in London (1834) beats Macy's.
