Oldest US department store chain going out of business - Steve - 08-28-2020 10:30 PM Lord and Taylor, the oldest US department store (founded in 1826) is going out of business: https://www.nj.com/business/2020/08/lord-taylor-to-shutter-all-stores-after-nearly-200-years-of-business.html Once the liquidation sales end and the stores close for good, the oldest US department store chain will be Macy's, founded in 1858. I think Macy's will also be the oldest department store overall, but there could be an older local independent department store in the US which I'm not aware of.
