RE: New Development in Booth Case Coming Soon
Mike, have you read Finis Bates book, "The Escape and Suicide of John Wiles Booth"?
https://archive.org/details/escapesuicid...te/page/n5 If you have read it, what do you think, do you believe it? So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |

I've read that book and I'll wait on Mike before giving my scathing review.

Laurie, it is full of inaccuracies and falsehoods. Mr. Bates does no real research into anything.

When we were involved in the 1990s court cases re: exhuming JWB's body, I made an attempt to contact Kathy Bates for her thoughts and got waylaid by her rep (who I think was her niece?). The lady was very nice, but made it clear that Kathy stands by her grandfather's opinions. Sort of like someone else we know??? |

Booth Mummy Found
Headline reads " Mummified Human Torso Found in Detroit Basement, reports say" No need to read the full article, who else could it possibly be? https://www.foxnews.com/us/mummified-hum...nt-reports For you skeptics out there, with some computer technology and some old polaroids stored in my attic (a West Virginia flea market find), they will soon be able to identify the mummy as Booth's. The dead give away, "the torso was found in the basement near a bar area". All these years and we've just been looking in the wrong place. Yes, I know all the Lincoln scholars will come up with some really nice sounding "evidence" on why it's not him, but I have the photographic proof and a UNIVAC computer combination vacuum cleaner that says otherwise. As my good friend, Rongway Remaines says, "This changes everything" So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |

RE: New Development in Booth Case Coming Soon
Thanks to Steve for sending this article. Steve writes that the article is "from page 2 of the 23 Jan. 1903 edition of the Wichita Daily Eagle which quotes an article from The Oklahoman. This Oklahoman article quotes a man named C. M. Clark who claims to have known David E. George since he young in Mississippi. However, I'm skeptical of a good bit of what Clark describes of George's earlier life, so I'm not sure if we should believe anything Clark says."

I'm sure there must be at least a basic file on David E. George in the Hall Papers at Surratt House. This is a very busy time for us, but we'll try and check to see what background info there is.

For those of you who rely on the Discovery Channel for "scientific evidence," you certainly will not want to miss Discovery, Inc.'s other airings, such as Animal Planet: "Animal Planet’s Finding Bigfoot chronicles the adventures of the Bigfoot Field Research Organization (BFRO) as they search North America and around the world for sasquatches (also known as yowies in Australia or orang-pendek in Indonesia). Through photos, videos, interviews and new technology, the BFRO team is out to prove, once and for all, that these mysterious creatures exist. "This season viewers will also be treated to a special pre-show moderated by series Executive Producer Keith Hoffman, bringing together the team to share greater detail and information that does not make it into the final cut. Don’t miss the return of Finding Bigfoot…only on Animal Planet!" |

Oh, ye of little faith. Mock all you like.
http://www.yowiehunters.net/index.php I had a quick look at the forum ... quick ? I could spend hours of amusement reading the posts ... here's the first post that I looked at ... "Back in 1990 my dad and I was fishing in Lake Jubilee near the foot bridge back water, when dad said did you see the Mark? I looked on the other side of the small creek and seen a big black puma yes a puma not a small cat.We walked around to the spot where it was drinking from, there were good size paw prints in the mud, but we didn't take a photo of them because it started to rain hard." (note the skilled grammar ... but best part of it is this : "we didn't take a photo of them because it started to rain hard" ... love it! Our indomitable Aussie spirit beaten by the rain ... so there's no photo ... aw shucks!) “The honest man, tho' e'er sae poor, Is king o' men for a' that” Robert Burns |

I passed a request on to our archivist at the Hall Research Center, and here is her reply: Oh my goodness….. Mr. Hall has an entire file drawer on David E. George. Here’s the folders listing: George-Booth Myth (David E. George binder #1, Oakland University files) George-Booth Myth (David E. George binder #2, Oakland University files) George-Booth Myth (David E. George binder #3, Oakland University files) George-Booth Myth (David E. George binder #1, Oakland University files) George, David E. S.Dumont, Lee Boyd, Dr. R. A. Field George, David E.--Miscellaneous Don't expect an immediate report on David E. George as gathered by reputable historians in the field... The Oakland University files pertain to Henry Ford's investigator, Fred Black, who spent a huge amount of time determining if the mummy was appropriate for the Dearborn museum or was nothing but a hoax. Since the mummy never made it to Dearborn, Michigan, perhaps it is safe to say that Henry Ford "didn't buy it" -- neither the mummy nor the hoax! May we spare my overworked, part-time archivist the time of compiling an albeit brief summary of the story of David E. George and just "not buy it" ourselves? |

That's impressive.
One day I'd love to come and spend a week looking through things. So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in? |
