I would prefer the Ring of Conspirators that my staff member, Julie Cowdery, created for the conference folder several years ago. We took Mrs. Surratt out of the center and placed her in the ring and also added Dr. Mudd to the circle. In the center, we placed the symbolic scales of justice.

I just remembered that we have already chosen the graphics and title for 2015: "...He Belongs to the Ages" with a colored image of The Apotheosis of Lincoln entering into Washington's arms. The U.S. stamp could have appropriately done something like this with the date April 15, 1865.

I noticed that the stamp designs have to be "approved" by the manufacturer (Zazzle) before they will be allowed to be created and shipped. The guidelines state that:

"In designing or creating any Zazzle Custom Stamps customized postage, you will not use any content or design element that in our sole judgment and discretion we believe would be controversial or offensive, would subject us to legal liability, or would cause damage to Zazzle's public reputation or our business.

Examples of what is prohibited include content or design elements that, in our sole judgment and discretion, we believe may:
...Incorporate a celebrity, current or former leader, politician, religious figure, convicted criminal or notorious person, or other famous person's name or likeness."

We may be in trouble. To test it out, however, I just ordered myself a sheet of these.

I just received an email informing me that my design using Booth's "Are you at home?" note has been denied. It did not give me any explanation other than it violated the acceptable content guidelines.

We may run into the same problem with a stamp for the conference. Perhaps Surratt House would have better luck if they designed one based on the house rather than the people. If not, there are other sites that create custom stamps that might be a little more accepting:

They do indeed have a point and I can't fault them for their answer. However, I still feel that they could find a middle ground where they could commemorate the 150th anniversary of Lincoln's death without it being a "disaster". A simple stamp of Lincoln's head with his birth year and death year could suffice and mark the anniversary appropriately enough.

I think that would be perfect. I am at a loss to see how anyone could argue that something like that would be inappropriate.

No offense to the memory of Steve Jobs, who I think was a genius. But I would purchase a Lincoln commemorative stamp before a Jobs one.
