I would definitely choose Lewis, but asking him two questions might be hard, because I'd probably be quite speechless!
Once I'd regained control of my tongue, I suppose I'd ask him:
1. Had he really thought the entire Seward household would let him in without question and just lead him to his victim?
2. What would his plans have been if he'd gotten away?

Have you guys heard of Marks & Spencers? You'd just die to have their salted caramel cheesecake.... truly! Those eclairs are something else too.

Hi Maddie. I think Powell pretended to be a laborer so that he would have a disguise when he walked through the streets of Washington on his way to Mrs. Surratt's house. Also, since he didn't have a gun or knife on him, the axe could be used as a weapon.

It is a mystery to me why he went back to the boarding house. My opinion is that he underwent some kind of trauma after attacking the Seward household. Betty has said that he may have been thrown from his horse and sustained a concussion. He was without food for three days, "hunted like a dog," and perhaps he felt guilty about the bloodbath at the Sewards.

Many people in Powell's situation would have disappeared and never been heard from again. But then again, how many people have been involved with the assassination of the President and Secretary of State?

I do believe that people can do really bad things and be genuinely sorry. And he seems to have been a nice person with a compassionate streak. The concussion thing, I'm not sure about. He had 3 days, didn't he, hiding out? I know concussion can affect you for weeks afterwards, but there's just something about this that doesn't sound right to me. It makes no sense, though it is the kind of thing you'd do if you weren't thinking straight. But he thought straight enough to hide in a tree for 3 days. Thought straight enough to disguise himself and make some headgear to wear, no matter how bizarre that must have looked. Straight enough to fabricate a story for his entry into the boarding house. I dunno. It just seems odd.
