Great news! Please other Forum members consider coming!
I just made reservations!
Looks like me and the Mrs. will be there as well, at least if present plans hold together.

Outstanding!
Joe Di Cola informed me that when he made his reservation today he was able to get them to add a AAA discount, which lowered his rate to $101.99
Any others joining us?
Gene and I are looking forward to the Springfield tour in October, and are happy that some of you from the site can join in. If others of you can join us, please let us know. One of the seldom-included sites we will visit is the Old Concord Cemetery, situated in the middle of a farm field (an adventure to get to in itself), and the original burial site of Anne Rutledge (as far as I am concerned, she is still there!), her brother David, John "Jack" Armstrong, his father (a Revolutionary War veteran), other Rutledges, and more of the people who befriended Lincoln and contributed to his development into the person he became.

Thanks, Roger, for help posting the photo I took in July, 2012.

Great photo Joe! Most of us plan on arriving in Springfield, Thursday afternoon, Oct 10, and starting early Friday morning to start our tour. A few of us are staying at the President Abraham Lincoln Motel
http://www.expedia.com/Springfield-Hotel...nformation

and the Hilton is right across the street, there are lots of other nice places to stay.

Even if you've been to Springfield before, this will be a unique experience.
So far, we have a small group of 9, there is room for more.
As a child in Illinois it was pretty much a state law that we had to visit the Springfield sites (anyone remember when they were called the Lincoln Shrines?). I'm looking forward to being there although Friday morning I'm going to run away and take advantage of my location to do some research on my book at the Lincoln Presidential Library. My wife will represent me in the morning. However, I will join the group when it goes to New Salem. It's been nearly 40 years since I've been there.

Oh, and anyone who comes can also wish me a happy 50th birthday (which actually will be the week before on Oct. 1). Anyone looking to get me a present my size is $20s and $50s. Smile

Seriously, I'm looking forward to meeting everyone who is planning to attend. I can't think of any better way to spend my birthday and to make the year I've had so far much better.

Best
Rob

Thanks for posting this gorgeous photo.
After dinner Friday evening, we plan to take a stroll through the Lincoln neighborhood. It takes on a magical aura when the lights are on, and you almost expect to see the Lincolns walk out the front door to take a stroll with you.

How about it? Are there any others out there who can join us?

Thanks again, Roger, for help in adding the image.
Gene and I hope more of you can join us in Springfield in October. You will get to see Lincoln's bedroom wallpaper and, after seeing it, begin to understand why he was perhaps so melancholy!

Join us if you can.

Thanks for adding the image, Roger.
It is even more striking when you see it up on all four walls. Cool

Due to our great negotiating skills, we are able to include the following at no additional cost to the normal museum admission fee:
Interesting exhibit at the Lincoln Museum about Weapons and Medicine of the Civil War. http://www.illinois.gov/alplm/museum/vis...ibits.aspx

Come join us, we will have a great time.
Getting closer!
