Gene and I are looking forward to the Springfield tour in October, and are happy that some of you from the site can join in. If others of you can join us, please let us know. One of the seldom-included sites we will visit is the Old Concord Cemetery, situated in the middle of a farm field (an adventure to get to in itself), and the original burial site of Anne Rutledge (as far as I am concerned, she is still there!), her brother David, John "Jack" Armstrong, his father (a Revolutionary War veteran), other Rutledges, and more of the people who befriended Lincoln and contributed to his development into the person he became.

Great photo Joe! Most of us plan on arriving in Springfield, Thursday afternoon, Oct 10, and starting early Friday morning to start our tour. A few of us are staying at the President Abraham Lincoln Motel

and the Hilton is right across the street, there are lots of other nice places to stay.

Even if you've been to Springfield before, this will be a unique experience.
So far, we have a small group of 9, there is room for more.

As a child in Illinois it was pretty much a state law that we had to visit the Springfield sites (anyone remember when they were called the Lincoln Shrines?). I'm looking forward to being there although Friday morning I'm going to run away and take advantage of my location to do some research on my book at the Lincoln Presidential Library. My wife will represent me in the morning. However, I will join the group when it goes to New Salem. It's been nearly 40 years since I've been there.

Oh, and anyone who comes can also wish me a happy 50th birthday (which actually will be the week before on Oct. 1). Anyone looking to get me a present my size is $20s and $50s.

Seriously, I'm looking forward to meeting everyone who is planning to attend. I can't think of any better way to spend my birthday and to make the year I've had so far much better.

Thanks for posting this gorgeous photo.

After dinner Friday evening, we plan to take a stroll through the Lincoln neighborhood. It takes on a magical aura when the lights are on, and you almost expect to see the Lincolns walk out the front door to take a stroll with you.

How about it? Are there any others out there who can join us?
