Thank you Betty! I was invited by some friends to attend the celebration here in Germany. They work for the USO and will be hosting a great party for those that cannot be home that day. This is such an important family thing in the US and I hope we can add just a little holiday cheer while they miss out on all that is going on at home.

Angela - Thank you ahead of time for adding some comfort and cheer for our armed forces personnel overseas. I remember a very sad Thanksgiving and Christmas in the early-1950s while my father was fighting in Korea.
No, our lives and situations are not perfect- far from it. We may be suffering from illness or having other difficult circumstances. No matter what condition we find ourselves in- we can still take the time to be grateful. It really is a matter of choice of perspective. I don't know the author of rhis but it says everything/
"Two men looked out from prison bars,
One saw mud-the other-stars."
Thank you President Washington for this tremendous Holiday!
Happy Thanksgiving

Bill, I do not know if this is accurate or not, but here it says the author was a poet named Martin D. Buxbaum.
Best wishes to all for a Happy Thanksgiving!

Have a happy Thanksgiving!
Have a wonderful Thanksgiving everyone, and please take time to remember the reason for this holiday.
Many thanks to Betty O. for sending this on Thanksgiving Day. Betty writes, "Here is a wonderful piano rendition of Over the River - written as "A New England Boy's Song of Thanksgiving" in 1844 by Lydia Childe (she wrote cook books like Sarah Josephia Hale, editor of Godey's Lady's book). Mrs. Hale was instrumental in pressing Mr. Lincoln and Wm. Seward for making Thanksgiving a national holiday."

Thank you, Betty!

This was a "hit song" during my elementary school days! I wonder how many people under the age of 40 have even heard it today.
I, too remember singing this 1844 "hit" in elementary school!
