Jimmy and I spoke the other night, and we got things to do. So, hair or no hair, Jim's going to be busy.

RE: Jim Garrett
Hey--

Jim Garrett is being transferred from PG Hospital to Holy Cross Silver Spring in the next few minutes. As I understand it, he had a complication when having the port for his chemo installed. I'm taking Friday off to go harass him and keep him from getting into trouble. He'll be in room 7130, bed 2.

Don't tell Jim, but I'm going to use my medical connections to set up a surprise operation as long as he's in there anyway. If my plan is successful, he will be known as Mary Todd Garrett in the future.

Give him our love, please, Jim. And, don't ever mention my name to your medical connections. I do not wish to sing baritone.

Will do, Laurie. And too late about mentioning your name. If you have to go in the hospital, that extra doctor will be a tattoo artist commissioned to recreate a Currier & Ives assassination print with you as the canvas.

It'll be pretty.

RE: Jim Garrett
Please give Jim all our love! He's in my prayers -- and yes, keep him busy; seriously one of the most amazing and strange tattoos I saw a few months ago. A lady came into a store with a tattoo on her upper arm which was a litho of General Grant. I kid you not. If Alexander Gardner or Matthew Brady had been tattoo artists, I would have thought that one of them made that tattoo.....I just couldn't understand why a lady would want a tattoo; much less one of General Grant! I got to thinking that when she gets old and shriveled; the General would do likewise.....

One of my tiny triumphs is that my daughter and son never were tattooed or pierced.

Only my ears are pierced - and only one hole in each! No tattoos at all - ever!

RE: Jim Garrett
Hey, All--

Jim went in to surgery at 9 a.m. this morning and, if I understand correctly, may be released this afternoon.

I'll update as news comes in. I am frankly surprised that a person could be released so soon after a surgery, but my wife had an appendectomy at Holy Cross a couple of years ago, and a few hours later she was home doing laundry. When I had my appendectomy in college (1971), I was in the hospital for three days.

Weird.

Just got a IM from Jim. He's out of surgery! Says he feels a bit rough, but is still supposed to be released this afternoon.
