Welcome Steve. You are doing the right thing-asking questions. Roger's advice was right-on about looking at some good books on Lincoln photographs and studying them. When I first became seriously interested in all things Lincoln about 12 yrs ago, I became convinced I had found an unknown photo of Mary Lincoln on eBay. I bought it for $35 and then started looking at all the known photos of Mary. I also contacted Roger through a website I found. Guess what? It wasn't Mary!

But I learned a lot and I still keep looking.

It was offered as Mrs. Lincoln and had a civil war tax stamp and with a photographers stamp from Elmira, NY. It may have been a Mrs. Lincoln but NOT the one I had in mind. And yes, you make a good point. No one else was bidding and I was the lucky winner! What should that have told me?

But Eva, I learned a valuable lesson.
