The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln - First and Second Supplements
A few weeks back, I finally purchased the nine-volume set of The Collected Works of Abraham Lincoln, published in 1953. However, as there are two supplemental volumes, one published in the early 70s and the other in 1990, I was eager to find those, too. It seems that they're very rare.

Just a couple of weeks later, I succeeded in purchasing, for only about $12 plus postage, the first supplement. Unfortunately, the book got lost in the mail en route!!! I got a refund, but I would have preferred the book! Now that I'm looking for the first supplement again, the few that are available are going for well over $100. The situation is at least as bad with the second supplement.

Anyone have any tips on where to get the two supplements for not-too-much money?

Liz, I am like you. I have two sets of the nine volumes but do not have the supplemental ones. Have you contacted the Abraham Lincoln Book Shop in Chicago? When I lived in the Chicago area I used to contact them all the time - if they don't have a book they would do a "search" and would always find what I sought, although usually at a price.

Liz,

I bought the first supplement several years ago and paid about $50 or so for it. I have never been able to find a copy of the second supplement that I would be willing to pay for. My only suggestion is to keep looking on the secondary market and hope you stumble across one for a decent price. Good luck!

The first supplement can be bought on Amazon for $43.89. (Now I see someone supposedly has it for sale for $14.07).

The second supplement is ridiculously priced at $159.29 and higher.

Guess what! I just ordered the one that was going for $14.03! Hopefully, it's in reasonably okay shape. There was one going for $12 and change, but the seller's rating wasn't quite as good as the rating of the seller selling the slightly more expensive volume.

Thanks, Kate, for the heads up!

Now maybe this one won't get lost in the mail?
