RE: I am so ashamed!
Kudos to Roger for this symposium. I view this very much like an old English private club where members can have intelligent discourse on a subject that they enjoy and can share. The key to the success has been the polite and genuine nature of the postings. The symposium has vastly improved my own knowledge and understanding of all things Lincoln and I tip my hat to all participants. We have treated each other with ernest respect, offer ideas and information freely, and each an every member here has given great contributions to this community. I have made new friends and existing friendship have grown. I raise a toast to Roger Norton!

Jim. I'm sure we all second your well stated sentiments!

RE: I am so ashamed!
Thanks, fellas. It certainly has kept me busy in retirement. Since I am not the "paint the house, tune the car, weed the garden" type, it is probably good to have a hobby that I can devote myself to doing.

Just to keep you updated, Bill. A group called the Ronettes currently has the #1 song on the pop charts.

After all, we are obsessed with a man and a time that is long gone. I don't know hardly any of today celebrities. I don't know popular songs for at least the last 15 years. Yet, I can tell you the smallest details of Abraham Lincoln. Yes, they're right. There is something strange about it all. Next stop: Willoughby!

A year ago or so, a woman I worked with mentioned Katy Perry. "Who's that?" I asked. And she replied, "How can you not know who Katy Perry is?"

I am so glad I know so little about contemporary "celebrities".

I have endured a great deal of ridicule without much malice; and have received a great deal of kindness, not quite free from ridicule. I am used to it. (Letter to James H. Hackett, November 2, 1863)

Is Katy Perry a descendant of Commodore Perry?

RE: I am so ashamed!
If she is I think Commodore Perry would have some serious concerns. From what I know (and that being very little)-she is quite provocative. She is also the daughter of a minister.
