Trivia Suggestion - Worth a Try?
This board has only been going for a week, and it's still very experimental. The moderator has no previous experience with the MyBB forum software. I am still very much in the learning stage. I am being very careful about adding/changing anything within the program itself for fear I couldn't repair the damage if things didn't go right. The actual code used for this MYBB software is WAY beyond what I know for my own regular Lincoln website.

I asked a trivia question this morning that is very, very difficult, and I only know of one source in which the answer can be found. It might take a long time to get answered.

I do not want to block others who may have a Trivia question but think they need to wait until mine gets answered before they post theirs.

Just as an experiment, could we try a format in which several trivia questions could be posted with no need to wait until a previous one gets answered? People who want to answer a question should start out their reply by saying whose question they are trying to answer. Possibly this could give a "constant flow" to the category as a whole.

The question is - would this create chaos and lack of organization? I do not know, but I am wondering if we could try it and see what happens. If chaos in the flow develops, then we'll need to reconsider.

If anyone agrees with me, please feel free to ask your Trivia question before mine gets answered!

Roger,

I'm wondering if maybe just having each question as it's own thread might be less unwieldy? I kind of like the way it seems to be going now, but that's just my opinion.

I agree with Rob. If you have a trivia question, like the one with Mary and her golves, the conversation can go into further discusions abut victorian clothing or somewhere related. Otherwise it might get confusing mixing in with other trivia questions on different subjects.

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?

In my heart I agree with you gents; I was just looking for a way not to prevent others from posting questions under trivia. I hear you. The question I asked about Mary and the price she paid for the gloves on one particular date in history is the hardest question I have ever asked, I think. Maybe somebody will get it sooner than I think, but I worry nobody else on the forum has the one book with the answer. I do not think even Google will help with this one.

RE: Trivia Suggestion - Worth a Try?
Can we start our own threads? (NOTE: I haven't tried...). Then we can post a question if we want, in a new thread.

I teach online and I find separate threads for separate questions are best and to keep answers in thread. I also sort all DBs "by thread" - it might be helpful for everyone to understand that you can do that and even encourage it (maybe set it to default mode). Then each one can be its own little discussion within a discussion.

RE: Trivia Suggestion - Worth a Try?
Hi Jennie. I am not sure if I understood everything correctly, but I will respond as best I can. Yes, anyone can ask a question in the Trivia section. Just go to Trivia Questions and click the New Thread button. Then fill-in the section where it says Thread Subject with a small description of what you will be doing. Then simply ask your question and click the Post Thread button.

I want to take this opportunity to introduce Jennie to the entire forum. She operates an absolutely wonderful blog titled the American Presidents Blog. Here is a brief description from her site:

Blog relating to the American Presidency, specific American Presidents, and First Ladies. Posts by online college instructor Jennie Weber with additional posts by site founder Dr. Michael Lorenzen and Elementaryhistoryteacher.

RE: Trivia Suggestion - Worth a Try?
Thanks for the intro! I've been low on posting lately, but I'm hoping with the coming fall term, I can get into a better posting schedule!

I'm always looking for ideas (or guest posts...) if anyone is interested!

RE: Trivia Suggestion - Worth a Try?
I understand what you're saying Roger. Why can't we do either? We can choose to start a new thread, or simply, state what are question is within an existing one.
