Presidential Genealogical Relationships
I thought this was interesting, though I don't know how true any of it is. I suppose if you go back far enough, we are all related to each other.

Amazing, Kate!

I have read that Dolley Madison was Mary Lincoln's distant relative by marriage.

I have read that too, but it is not true.

Thanks, Donna. It's amazing how these things get into books.

I am guilty of writing something in a book that is not true myself. When writing about Mary's half brother Alexander H. Todd, I listed his military rank as "Captain" because that is what was written in his sister Emilie Helm's notes. Today, I read a letter from a fellow soldier saying that Aleck was a Lieutenant. Books seem to bounce betweent the two ranks - and one source listed Aleck as a Colonel.

Apparently, he was a Lieutenant when he died. Someone suggested he was given the rank of Captain after his death -but I have not found evidence to support the theory. Perhaps Emilie's use of the word "Captain" was wishful thinking.

I think there's the same difficulty with Henry Rathbone. Some books call him Major Henry Rathbone while others say Colonel Henry Rathbone.

I think he was a Major at the time of the assassination, but retired as a Colonel.

True that!

I soon expect to hear that Obama is distantly related to Sally Hemmings.

RE: Presidential Genealogical Relationships
President Obama is said to be related to a lot of high profile folks I get a chuckle when I think that he is actually related to George Bush.

RE: Presidential Genealogical Relationships
There is some debate about who Obama's real father is. He looks alot more like Frank Marshall Davis than the guy from Kenya.

Tom Hanks and A. Lincoln are distantly related, from what I've read.

The Bush family is certainly well connected.

Oh, but what a family! Gene, you're too much. Burt Reynolds was awesome in that movie!

RE: Presidential Genealogical Relationships
I'm wondering if any other small group of people selected by profession, for example, top brain surgeons in the U.S. over the last 225 years, would show a similar degree of relatedness among them.
