Joe: what does that mean? I think I know what it means-so don't be reluctant to let the cat out of the bag.

My guess is that Cary Grant had the scene shot inside the studio. then the scene was laid over an existing shot of the airplane? Something like that?

Does a Gumby video, with my four-year-old grandsons the other night, count?

Yes. Notice that the scenes actually shot out near the field never show Cary's face.

Well, I guess it makes sense. The studio couldn't have Cary Grant actually threatened by a real crop duster-accidents happen. Still, the scene is very effective. Hitchcock carefully shows the plane flying in the air before the viewer and Grant know what a menace it will be.

RE: Abraham Lincoln sightings
I don't know if this is a "sighting" per se but it was an unexpected reference to Lincoln while reading the book Groucho Marx, Secret Agent: A Mystery Featuring Groucho Marx by Ron Goulart. Groucho is being interviewed and is asked:

"What's your costume meant to be?"

"I'm Abraham Lincoln, obviously." Though he had applied the greasepaint moustache he used in his movies, there was no Lincolnesque beard in evidence. Instead of a stovepipe hat, he was wearing one of his old Captain Spaulding pith helmets. And over the shoulders of his tweedy autumnal sport coat, he had thrown a shawl.

"You don't look much like Lincoln."

"Neither did Abe Lincoln."

"He never, for instance, wore a pith helmet.'

"He never happened to wear one when there were photographers around, true," admitted Groucho. "But he was often seen with a shawl very much like this one draped over his careworn shoulders."

"I doubt Lincoln's shawl had "Souvenir of Youngstown, Ohio" embroidered across_"

"As a chap who's gotten himself tarted up to resemble a potential pallbearer for Orson Welles, you're in no position to cast aspersions," Groucho informed me "We might allow you to cast a few nasturtiums later in the evening, however, so stick around."

FUNNY STUFF!

RE: Abraham Lincoln sightings
The funniest story I've heard about Groucho was in his son's book. While filling out papers at customs before or after an overseas trip, Groucho wrote in the blank for his occupation- "Smuggler". He said they were detailed for a long time and Mrs. Marx didn't see the humor in it.

"There are few subjects that ignite more casual, uninformed bigotry and condescension from elites in this nation more than Dixie - Jonah Goldberg"

RE: Abraham Lincoln sightings
Another great Groucho story-there are sooooo many.
It was around 1942.
All the Japenese had been rounded up and locked up due to the war, so there was a shortage of Japanese gardeners in the L.A, area.
So Groucho was doing his own gardening, sans makeup, out in front of his house.
A big fancy car pulls up, and a wealthy lady rolls down the window.
She looks at Groucho, not recognizing him, and asks,
"How much does the lady of the house pay you to do her gardening??"
Groucho looks up and replies,
"She doesn't pay me anything, but she lets me sleep with her once a week!"

The man was unbelievable!!

RE: Abraham Lincoln sightings
OK, OK, I'll tell one more story, one of my favotite Groucho stories.
What makes this one so funny is that it was in one of the many books he wrote.
I wish I could tell/write it the way he did, but here goes:

Groucho and his wife lived next door to a couple, and they were all very friendly.
Unfortunatly the neighbor's husband passed away suddenly.
The widow grieved for several months, then decided to get on with her life.
One of the first things she did was throw a party and invite all her friends and neighbors.
Groucho was at the party, and he noticed the lady's husband was cremated, and she had his ashes in an urn sitting on the mantlepiece.
As the party went on, People were smoking cigarettes and tipping their ashes into the urn, not knowing it contained her husband's ashes.
Marx watched this going on for a while, then walked up to the lady, pointed at the urn, and said,
"So I see your husband put on some weight.'

RE: Abraham Lincoln sightings
Well Bill, I'm glad everyone had a laugh over that.
If people don't find Groucho's humor funny, there must be something wrong their outlook on life.
