RIP. Dr. Ronald Rietveld

It is with sadness to announce that Dr. Ronald Rietveld, professor of history at California State University-Fullerton, has passed away yesterday. Many Lincoln scholars and buffs still remember how he made headlines back in 1952, when he was looking through the papers of John G. Nicolay at the Illinois State Historical Library, when he discovered the photograph of Abraham Lincoln in his casket taken at NYC City Hall while it was lying State, and thought to been destroyed under the orders of secretary of war Edwin Stanton.
