You just gave me an idea of how to supplement my retirement income with

I'm sure I have enough stuff (meaning - vintage artifacts) stashed away in the attic or basement that possibly , could have once belonged (my memory is not as sharp as it used to be) to some famous, but somewhat forgotten person from past.
Add a little bakery with some fresh left over deserts from the church socials (just add a scoop of ice cream on top), it makes my mouth water over the opportunities. $$

Does that mean that the auction house has knowingly taken possession of stolen goods ?
I suppose they could claim the statute of limitations, but the property should still be returned to the original owners?

That's exactly how the Ford family retained ownership of the rocking chair Lincoln was sitting in when he was shot, Gene - they sued the Gov't for it's return in 1929.
