Anyone got $100K?
Looking at the website for the Abraham Lincoln Bookshop, found this item available for the low, low price of $95,000. I ask for $100,000, though, because I figure it will cost me $5,000 to defend myself when Cheryl files for divorce.

Seems a little steep, but if Roger starts a Lincoln Discussion Symposium Go Fund Me, I'll kick in to help you out......

Maybe Cheryl can quilt you one and save you about $94,957.83

So when is this "Old Enough To Know Better" supposed to kick in?

I can't even get her to quilt one that I designed around the life of Ida Tarbell, so I can't see this ever getting off the ground.

And, I thought that I was the only difficult person that you ever had to deal with.

RE: Anyone got $100K?
Rob, your recent post about the Lincoln bookshop trying to sell a signed Sandburg set for $6,500 brought me back to this post. I think this is another example of the Lincoln Bookshop setting unreasonably high prices.

The dress fragment and letter the Lincoln Bookshop is trying to sell for almost $100,000 were both owned by our late friend, Dr. Blaine Houmes. They were sold by Heritage Auctions in 2022. The letter sold for $5,000, and the dress fragment went for $37,500. While I like the nice red clamshell container the Bookshop put them both into, I have a hard time believing that in two years, these items have more than doubled in value.

Great to hear from you, Dave! It would have been something special to see Blaine's collection all together. I agree with you that it seems strange that all those items would have doubled in value.

That was quite a collection Blaine had. His lots comprised a bulk of the auction. Whomever bought the veil Mary Lincoln wore to Ford's lent it to the ALPM for display a while back. I'll never forget him letting me hold that. He was a great guy.

Blaine was MOST generous in sharing what he had collected. I am not going to bid on the originals in his collection, but am grateful that I knew him.

In addition, Blaine owned the rocker from Mary Lincoln's room at Bellevue Place.
