It’s called Mr. Lincoln by Hank Williams Jr. Why doesn't Hank Williams, Jr do a "Lincoln" song about an innocent man being ordered to be executed by a five-to-four majority of the United States Supreme Court. I was there at the gates of San Quentin State Prison in California at 12:01 AM on the morning of July14, 1998 (Bastille Day) when Thomas Thompson, an innocent man, was executed and holding my sign in protest which read "UNCONSTITUTIONAL EXECUTION." The sign still stands in the corner of my dining room to this day. (05-25-2023 09:35 PM)Gene C Wrote: Abraham Lincoln (The Tall American) by Fess Parker Now, that's a good song!!! RE: Songs About Lincoln
A Trivia question ... why do I include the following in a Thread about Lincoln ?
New York Volunteer https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rjDsUDSzm3c Yes , its a Civil War song. But why include it here in Lincoln songs? “The honest man, tho' e'er sae poor, Is king o' men for a' that” Robert Burns |

RE: Songs About Lincoln
The words to this song are matched to the tune of an old English folk song called The Lincolnshire Poacher

RE: Songs About Lincoln
Didnt take you long , did it Gene? Well done.
We used to sing it at school when listening to the BBC 'Broadcast For Schools' programme on the 'wireless' ( that's 'radio' to anybody born after 1970). If anybody had said I'd be writing about the New York Volunteers on the internet, we would have thought they were insane. “The honest man, tho' e'er sae poor, Is king o' men for a' that” Robert Burns |
