Name this great Republican
His nickname was "The Tiger ". He had a connection with the state of Connecticut.
I guess 'great ' in the title of the Thread is not too helpful .... depends on where you're coming from . "well known " Republican ..... but then some may not know him. Hint .... at one time he was a journalist. “The honest man, tho' e'er sae poor, Is king o' men for a' that” Robert Burns |

RE: Name this great Republican
Well done, Roger !!!! Triple marks for thinking outside the square.
I thought that I'd be able to string this out for maybe 2 days. Next few hints would have been .... He went to prison because of his political views. He knew someone that painted Lincoln. He met and argued (?) with Woodrow Wilson. He was born in the 1840s and was involved in the Great War but never spoke to Lincoln. He became Prime Minister. “The honest man, tho' e'er sae poor, Is king o' men for a' that” Robert Burns |

RE: Name this great Republican
