The Lincoln Project - 2020
Did you see? There was a lecture at Cooper Union this week, 'Right Makes Might'

A supposed Lincoln Project 2020

"Since taking office, this president, despite his radical, reckless, and corrupt actions, his constant stream of unpresidential words and deeds, has faced no substantive sanction, official or otherwise. A reelection will embolden him and his allies in ways Americans should fear."

RE: The Lincoln Project - 2020
So Abraham Lincoln's Cooper Union Address was 56 minutes long. I think that is the first time I've read the amount of time the speech took. As this is an opinion piece, I am curious regarding the authors' source for that tidbit.

Video RE: The Lincoln Project - 2020
I wonder if the exact time of 56 mins is taken from the YouTube video of Sam Waterson's reading... Smile

Lincoln is again invoked by Thomas Friedman.  (I saw several citings last week of Friedman's proposed 'Team of Rivals'.)

Forget Super Tuesday. It’s the Day After That Matters

'How could it be,' Shriver asked, 'that the country that produced an Abraham Lincoln, who, in the middle of a civil war, could utter the words of the second inaugural' - [without malice] - 'is now a place where the more politically engaged you are today the more you hate your neighbor? That's why we need leaders and ideas that unite us. ...' "

Is it typical in a presidential election season to so often refer to Lincoln, or are these 'exceptional' times?

That is certainly possible, Amy.

IMO, Lincoln is the USA's most quoted President, and I think this is pretty normal.

RE: The Lincoln Project - 2020
A European view of America (Oct. 11, 2020), citing Lincoln --

"Demokratie, sagte einst Abraham Lincoln, sei 'government of the people, for the people, by the people.'
